Investment Environment 

    Located in the southwestern part of Henan Province, Nanyang Municipality, called “Wan” in the ancient times, is a fiat basin with mountains (Funiu Mountains on the north, Tongbai Mountains on the east and Qinling Mountains on the west) on three sides and a river (Hanjiang River) to the south. It covers an area of 26,600 square (Chinese) li with a population of 10.56 million. It is the largest in area and population among the 18 province-controlled cities in Henan Province. Under its jurisdiction are two districts, one city and ten counties. 　　Nanyang is with unique natural resources. Nanyang lies in the linking climate region from the north to the south, with apparent seasons and plentiful rainfall which is favorable for the development of farming, forestry, animal husbandry, side-line production and fishery. It is the major production area of grain, cotton, oil and tobacco in Henan Province and has been called "A Barn in Central China" 8 of the counties are bases of commodity grain and 2 are bases of commodity cotton. There have already been over 30 bases of fanning, side-line production and local products, such as tobacco, pigs, yellow cattle, yangtao, tussah, Chinese medicinal herbs and fruits.

    Nanyang is Rich in Natural Resources. The already-explored minerals are up to 82 kinds, accounting for 76.6% of all discovered mineral products in Henan Province. Among the mineral products, the reserves of natural alkali, kyanite and andalusite are in the first place in China. And the reserves of silver, copper, zinc, lead, graphite, marble and cement rock take the first place in Henan Province. The reserves of gold and petroleum take the second place in Henan Province, with concentrated distribution and high exploration value. 46 kinds of these mineral resources are being mined, with the total mining production value of 2860 million yuan RMB.

　

    With a long history of culture,Nanyang is also rich in tourist resources. Nanyang is among the first cultural cities approved by the State Council and is one of the birthplaces of Chu Culture. It is also the birthplace of many historical figures such as BaiLixi, Fan Li, Zhang Heng, Zhang Zhongjing and Zhu Geliang and many others. And the present famous figures include Peng Xuefeng, Feng Youlan, Li Ji, Yao Xueyin, Wang Yongmin, and Er Yuehe. There are many places ofhistorical interests in Nanyang such as Wuhou Temple, Doctor Sage Temple, Zhang Heng Museum, Han Dynasty Stone Gravings Gallery, Neixiang County-yard etc. The natural landscapes- BaoTianman, and TaiBaiding are state natural protection zones. Dan Xia Temple, Xiang Yan Temple and Waterfall Cave, as well as natural scenic spots like Danjiangkou Reservoir and Laojieling are famous tourist attractions. The large amount of dinosaur egg fossil discovered in the weat part of Nanyang is listed in "World Culture Heritage" by the United Nations Educational,Scientific and Cultural Organization(UNESCO). and Baotianman Natural Protection Zone is listed in "World Biological Circle Protection Zone " by the United Nations. 

    Nanyang has enough power resource. Nanyang is near coal mines, rich in water and close to the power net, and it is a good place to develop industry. Now the I st session of Yahekou Therimal Powe Plant with a capacity of 700,000kw already in effect and Pushan Power Plant with the capacity of250,000kw can offer a reliable supply for the economical development in Nanyang. 
    

The transportation is convenient. The Jiaozuo-Zhicheng Railway runs from north to south through the area and the Xi'an -Nanjing Railway under construction runs from west to east through here; the Nanyang-Xuchang Expressway is under construction; and the preparation for the Nanyang- Xiangfan Expressway and the part ofNo.312 National Road in Nanyang is in action. Nanyang Airport is enough for Boeing 747 to take off and land, with over 10 airlines in land. A high-tech communications network has been shaped here with program-controlled exchange, fiber transmission digital microwave and data communication.

    Nanyang`s economy is developing faster and the comprehensive economic power keeps rising. Now the industrial system in Nanyang is beginning to take shape. A multiform system based on textile, petrochemical, medicine, food,building material, machinery and electronics has been formed. with 800 large and medium- sized enterprises and over 3,000 industrial products including spirit, petroleum, film, medicine, fabric,explosion-proofmotors, cigarettes, cement automobile parts, natural alkali, gold,silver silk carpet and jade articles.The GDP in Nanyang in 2001 was 571 00 million yuan and over 400 enterprises with foreign investment have been set up, with the exporting capability of over 1 00 million U.S. dollars. In recent years the investment environment in Nanyang is continuously improving.
